Getting "Must be admin user" - but I already am?

People,

I have created my first bot and am now trying to modify the avatar, voice etc but whatever I do I get the above message - so I go to users and set check the boxes so my handle is both an admin and a user and try again but I get the same message! I go back to users and the boxes I previously checked are unchecked again! There is no "Save" option so what am I missing?

To edit an existing avatar you must be the admin/creator of that avatar.
To create your own avatar click on Create, or create the avatar from,

To change your avatar you can select one from the drop down, or enter the name or id.

You are the admin of your "bot", but not the "avatar".
You have selected the avatar "Julie 3 Business", you cannot edit this avatar, as you did not create it, it is one of our avatars. You can create your own avatar by clicking "Create", you cannot click "Edit".

Or select a different avatar from the drop down.

I already have an Avatar look that I want to use (which sort of resembles me) - eg I created this YT video with it:
