You can download the Bot Libre project and source code from GitHub, or the zip from SourceForge.

Bot Libre's development uses Eclipse and ant. Each component contains an Eclipse project that defines the component and dependencies. Each component also has a build.xml ant build file that can be used to compile the source code into a jar. ant is a command line driven build tool that can be downloaded free from the Internet (just google ant).

The Bot Libre AI engine is somewhat more complex than many other AI and NLP engines.

Bot Libre is a hybrid engine, in that it does not rely on a single technology. Instead Bot Libre has a unified architecture centered around a concept of self, and an object oriented knowledge base.

Self has access to your bot's entire knowledge base, so anything is possible.

If you have "Read friends status updates" on it your bot's Twitter properties, it will processing your friends status updates that match any of its keywords. A processed tweet will go through each of your bot's Self scripts.

Can I use AIML/Self to build a tweet template where my bot will combine snippets of the tweets from the people it follows?

The bots will only respond to mentions, and tweets that match one of their trained question patterns.

Twitter bots will automatically respond to mentions and messages every time they check their status. How often the bots check their status depends on your account and server.

On www.botlibre.com, basic accounts will only check their status once per day. You can upgrade your account to Gold or Platinum to check every hour, or 20 minutes.

Is there any way to make it so that I don't need to click "Check Status" every time so it can respond to a person? I want it to automatically respond to a person after they mention them instead of having to click "Check Status" every single time.

You can connect your bot to email from the Email page under your bot's Admin Console.
You can connect your bot to a pop3, stmp, or imaps email server, such as Gmail.
You need to know your email server's protocol, host and port. The default settings are for Gmail, so to connect to Gmail you just need to enter your gmail address and password.

If you created your bot from the ALICE template, an issue was fixed with it recently.

Our Twitter bot server has been updated to our 3.1 version.

This includes many enhancements, including our Facebook automation support.

The migration of Bot Libre's dedicated Twitter bot server is now complete. All of the bot's on twitter.botlibre.com have been migrated to the new server (the server is still twitter.botlibre.com, just a new IP address).

During the migration, some of the bots were disconnected from Twitter, so you may need to reconnect your bot from the "Twitter" page under its Admin page. Just click on "Connect".
